Overview
Based on the books by Kass Morgan, this show takes place 100 years in the future, when the Earth has been abandoned due to radioactivity. The last surviving humans live on an ark orbiting the planet — but the ark won't last forever. So the repressive regime picks 100 expendable juvenile delinquents to send down to Earth to see if the planet is still habitable.

Unbeknownst to Clarke, a team led by Bellamy and Kane journeys deep into Grounder territory to save her. 1.19 March 2014Ninety-seven years ago, nuclear Armageddon decimated planet Earth, destroying civilization. The only survivors were the 400 inhabitants of 12 international space stations that were in orbit at the time. Three generations have been born in space, the survivors now number 4,000, and resources are running out on their dying "Ark." Among the 100 young exiles are Clarke, the bright teenage daughter of the Ark’s chief medical officer; the daredevil Finn; the brother/sister duo of Bellamy and Octavia, whose illegal sibling status has always led them to flaunt the rules, the lighthearted Jasper and the resourceful Monty. Technologically blind to what’s happening on the planet below them, the Ark’s leaders — Clarke’s widowed mother, Abby; Chancellor Jaha; and his shadowy second in command, Kane — are faced with difficult decisions about life, death and the continued existence of the human race.

Bellamy and his crew go hunting for food, and are joined by Charlotte, a lovable 13-year-old, who feels safe under Bellamy’s protection. A thick, acidic fog appears, forcing Clarke, Finn and Wells to seek shelter inside an ancient van. While they are trapped, Clarke confronts Wells on his betrayal that resulted in her father’s death.

Meanwhile, on the Ark, Abby is removed from the council, and former Chancellor Diana Sydney takes her place. Jaha reveals to Abby that there are not enough drop ships for everyone on the Ark to go down to Earth, and Kane begins to deal with his guilt over his recent decision.

8.07 May 2014Clarke and Bellamy go on a mission to find supplies for approaching winter. Some of the 100 accidentally eat nuts with powerfully hallucinogenic properties and lose their grasp on reality. Meanwhile, Octavia seizes the opportunity to help a friend escape, and a terrifying event brings Clarke and Bellamy closer. On the Ark, Commander Shumway secretly assigns one of the 100 to kill one of his own, and the treacherous actions of Diane Sydney are revealed.

Surprisingly brilliant and high quality
I expected this show to be glossy, campy, and generally bad, but I was shocked to discover the exact opposite! Yes, the cast is gorgeous, but the similarities to the cheese teen genre CW shows stops there. The story is brutal, the scripts are well written, the acting and directing is phenomenal, the set and costume design pull you right in, and, aside from a rather poorly done scene with a gorilla, the science fiction aspect is intriguing and plausible. I can't say too much without giving things away, but as the seasons progress, you start to see how much they have gone out of their way to create a unique and complex universe. But the real hooker of this show are the characters and social dynamics of the post-nuclear fallout society. They are fascinating, relatable, and oftentimes unpredictable. Bad guys don't always stay bad, and good guys don't always stay good. Rather, people make hard choices in hard situations, making no one really good or bad, depending upon your point of view. The show takes you in directions you never expect. In fact, the only thing you are sure to feel is glad to not be them, but you will be pulling for them the whole way! I'm telling you, this show is an absolute gem, and you will be hooked from episode one. So far, it just keeps getting better and better. More please!

Good story, Good places, Good actors, but the sci-fi is real low, We have more drama teen than sci-fi.
But it's a good project. Must watch ^^

Mostly adolescent nonsense
... with a reasonable underlying plot. I am sticking it out mainly as I cannot get a novel sci-fi fix elsewhere else. The 100 provides more grist to the mill that high quality sci-fi is being killed-off with Generation Y (no demand = no supply). It is pretty much a reboot of Lord of the Flies with all the modern banal titillations and visuals. I hope for cancellation and for channels to go back to commissioning some real sci-fi.
